Updates on Kuratur and Tips in Dealing with Down IFTTT Properties

By April

In the 70th episode of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, a participant asked about the current status of Kuratur. Bradley and Hernan also added tips on how to deal with properties that are not working well in IFTTT.

The exact question was:

Update 3:58 PM. I just got through checking all the Tier 2 Rebel Mouse sites and apparently your VA's never checked “publish posts without media” box when they built them. They should be all set now, I hope.. πŸ™‚

Does anybody know what's up with Kuratur, their site has been down for over month now? 2) My videos do not seem to be showing up in the “videos” link section of all Paper.li sites also, just wondering if there is a way to correct this or how I can check something?

Thanks for your help πŸ™‚

IGNORE THIS SECTION: πŸ™‚
Hi Guys…I have noticed on all my IFTTT networks EXCEPT for the Tier 1's that Rebel Mouse is not streaming content out to Tier 2 and 3 properties.

Effect of Putting Geo Tag in the Head Section of a Page

By April

During episode 69 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, a viewer asked about the impact of adding geo tags in the header section of the page as well as setting the location in JSON LD schema.

The exact question was:

Hey guys,

Would a meta geo tag in the head section of page work as well as json-ld to show location relevancy for the specific city page? My json already has local business schema so i dont think i should add a second local business schema hence hoping the header meta geo tags will help. I also have 1 image on the page geo-tagged but am thinking of adding the meta geo tag to further help location relevancy with out adding a 2nd local business to json.

Just put this in that specific pages head section via the WordPress plugin you mentioned a week or two ago?

Thanks?

Best Way to Create Simple Silo Using Sidebar Categories

By April

During episode 69 of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked about the best way to create a silo structure sites using categories in the sidebar of the page.

The exact question was:

Hi. Really appreciate the videos you made on Simple and Complex Silos. I have watched both videos 3x now. I had one question regarding the categories in the sidebar. After making the top pages be the categories, you made one statement regarding the categories in the sidebar still leaking out juice from the silo then something like “I'd remove them from the sidebar.”

What is the best option after creating a Simple Silo to avoid or minimize that category leak?

1) Just leave the 5 categories (which would be pages) in the sidebar and tolerate a small amount of silo leakage.

2) Remove the category listings widget out of the sidebar.

3) Or Use the Simple Silo Plugin from Network Empire?

My site only has a few top level pages at this time. I could go with any option. Thanks.?

Duplicate Content Issues When Using Templates for Business Franchise

By April

In the 69th episode of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked about the possible content duplication issues when using a template for optimizing a business franchise in different local listing sites. Moreover, he wanted to know if it's recommended to syndicate posts from each city domain to a branded network.

The exact question was:

Okay, so I've setup a branded service for local business on a root domain and I've created subdomains for regional cities. My intent is to lease out the map listings and subdomains. For example “Ann Arbor Premier Septic Systems”, “Lansing Premier Septic Systems”, etc. Couple questions;

1. Since I'm branding the service and treating each city like a franchise, I'm using the same template, graphics, and brand name for each website, changing only the content, city specific NAP, Json markup, etc. Am I going to get myself into trouble branding across subdomains like that?

2. Similarly, can I syndicate blog content from each city subdomain to my main branded IFTTT network, or should I create a separate branded IFTTT network for each? My thought here is it would look natural having a branded franchise service syndicating content from its franchisees. Yes? No??
