Is It Possible To Use OBS With Google Hangouts Live?

By April

In episode 100 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked whether it’s possible to use OBS with Google Hangouts Live.

The exact question was:

Been watching a few of your videos now, and they are very helpful. My question is how are you able to do a hangouts live, talk with another person using what appears to be hangouts, and use OBS?

That is stumping me because it looks like you can use either/or. But hangouts right now is limited to what I can do with OBS. Thanks.

Oh and if you already covered it just point me to where I can read/view. Thanks.

OBS studio is a powerful live streaming and free software that you can use for video calling.

We've used it with Google Hangouts and Facebook to stream to both places at once, or one or the other.

However, you might not be aware that Google Hangouts through their Live Event features offers many of the options that you might want to use OBS for.

Take the time to see what exact features you need – a hangout video might be enough and is easy to use.

Not only will hangouts be an easier solution but it comes with it's own editing software on the YouTube platform.

We recommend OBS and other tools if it's the right tool to get the job done – just be sure to not make it more complicated than it needs to be.
