By April

In episode 238 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one participant asked if one should 301 redirect multiple tag pages that cause duplicate content.

The exact question was:

I'm doing an website analysis for a client (Yes! They are paying me for this service!). The website has a large number of Tag pages that are indexed, but also contain a high percentage of duplicate content. Should these tag pages be 301 redirected to relevant pages, left alone, or do something else? Thanks, Scott

Does Using Duplicate Content For Subdomains For Each Different City For Lead Gen Site Still Applies Today?

By April

In episode 232 of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked if using duplicate content for subdomains for each different city for lead gen site still applies today.

The exact question was:

Thanks a LOT for your previous answer (smile) . . . . Which brought up this question (smile) . . . . It used to be OK to use duplicate content for different sites targeting a local niche in different cities, just changing the location info, one site for each city, but . . . . . . . (1) Is that still true? . . . . . (2) If so, will that also apply to using duplicate content for sub-domains for each different city?

Are There Any Risks To Having Too Many City Subdomains?

By April

In episode 131 of the weekly Hump Day Hangouts by Semantic Mastery, one viewer asked if it’s risky to add too many subdomains that point to each city for a company in multiple locations.

The exact question was:

I have a Client that has locations in several spread out states (ie. TX, FL, CA), so creating any kind of “City Pages” on the root (clowncollege.com/miami-juggling clowncollege.com/dallas-juggling) doesn’t make sense. Obviously all actual (GMB) locations will be subdomains, but other supporting cities (without GMB) will also be subdomains, are the any risks to having “too many” city subdomains?

When you consider ServPro has a domain for every city in the country with 98.35% duplicate content I am sure I over think the “”safety”” aspect when it comes to local, but I appreciate the help nonetheless.

Switchbox SEO: How Can Posts Be Made On The Cloned Site If The Site Redirects To The Clients Site When Visited?

By April

In episode 124 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one viewer asked about how switchbox SEO works, particularly with regard to redirected content.

The exact question was:

I am considering the seo switchbox strategy – not sure how to word this but the question is with the rss syndication strategy how can posts be made on the cloned site if the site redirects to the clients site when visited – also if a post is made, that same post wont be on the clients site it will be on the clone site so is that just left normal ie part of the cloned site and not redirected to the client site? But of course the internal links in it will redirect to the clients site? sorry if that sounds confusing just confused about that aspect and basically want to know if i can built the ring and the rys around the cloned site ultimately keeping all the power with the cloned site should i disconnect the main pages and home page

Can I Get A Penalty For Duplicating Content In 3 Branded Google Drives?

By April

In episode 98 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one participant asked whether one can get penalized for duplicating content in 3 branded Google drives.

The exact question was:

Hey Guys, I've an e-commerce store, a physical location and my personal G+ page. So I have 3 branded drives (possibly more if I can use my employees drives).

So my question is – Can I get a penalty for duplicating the content inside these drives? Can I basically copy the contents of one drive and keep reproducing it in others?
