Is It True That Google Will Penalize A Review/Product Type Rich Snippet Placed On The Homepage?

By April

In episode 166 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one participant asked whether Google will penalize a review/product type rich snippet that is placed on the homepage of a website.

The exact question was:

I remember I read somewhere that putting a review/product type rich-snippet data on your homepage (instead of an organization/webpage/article type) is not good, cause google will penalize you somehow? I mean a review/product type schema which shows those review stars below your listing on the SERPs (for better CTR). Is this true or just a gossip?

Does Rich Plugins For FB and GMB Reviews Allow Me To Add Review Schema?

By April

In episode 155 of Semantic Mastery's weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one participant asked whether having Rich Plugins for FB and GMB reviews allows one to add review schema to a homepage with a review slider.

The exact question was:

I bought the Rich Plugins FB and GMB reviews that BB mentioned a while ago. I've added a GMB review slider right on the homepage. I'm new to Schema, but would I be able to add review schema to the page because of this? If so, is there anything I should watch out for?

In the video, Bradley mentioned that if you have bought the pro version of Rich Plugins, it automatically adds schema markups and structured data on the website. One should remember to select the proper option on the Rich Plugin setting so that it can properly mark up the structured data and provide rich snippets in search results. Bradley also highly suggest contacting the developer for any issues.
