Adam: All right. Welcome everybody to Hump Day Hangouts. Today is the 8th of June, and this is Hump Day Hangouts 83. We are chugging right along. Every time I see it in the 80's, even though it's once a week, I'm like, “All right, we're getting close to 100.” It's going to be a little bit. Let's go down the line and say hello. We'll start with Chris. How are you doing Chris?

Chris: Doing excellent. How are you?

Adam: Good deal. Hernan, what's up?

Hernan: Hey guys, it's really good to be here.

Adam: It's now progressed from sweater to sweatshirt with a hood weather. Is it getting colder down there?

Hernan: Getting colder. You won't see me at some point, you won't even see me.

Adam: Speaking of weather. Marco, how's it going?

Marco: Nice and warm, man. About to get some rain, so I probably won't be able to participate in Hangout, but you know, that's how it goes.

Adam: Okay. We've got a comment saying that nobody could be heard. You guys can't be heard on Facebook Live.

Bradley: I know you didn't introduce me, sorry but I had to come in. We're trying an experiment. We're trying to do Facebook Live broadcast at the same time that we're doing Hump Day Hangout, but it's weird because my mobile device is pointed directly at me and showing just my face. Nobody can see the screen and apparently other people can't hear you guys when you talk. Anyway, some behind the scenes stuff.

Adam: Let's just go through, I've got a couple of announcements real quick, and then we'll get rolling. Is It Over-Optimized To Use Different Industries As SubDomains In The Same Root Domain?

Bradley: Hey. Hi. All right. Mark O'Connell says, “Hi guys. First, big thank you to Marco for the wonderful information given on Monday. Really enjoyed it, I'll plus one that. My question is, let's say I have a domain, plumbersnearme.com, and I have one like this but not for plumbers, is that over optimized? This is now a keyword, I mean industry, near me.” No, not really. It would be if you had a city name in there, but having plumbers in there, that's pretty standard, that's normal. Think about it, I know you said it's not plumbers, but I'm just saying this as an example. A lot of businesses will use what industry they're in as part of their brand name. That's not abnormal at all, or over optimized.

“If I sub-domain out per city, london.plumbersnearme.com, Manchester.plumbersnearme.com, can I have the business name as londonplumbersnearme for a Google maps listing under the same root, but sub-domain cities out to target other areas, or should I just use a completely separate domain?” Let's see, that would be, yeah I would just use different sub-domains on the same domain, the same root. Am I reading that question wrong? Is he just asking about should he keep building out on the same domain? I think that's what the question is, Mark, if I'm misunderstanding the question, please forgive me. It seems like you're asking, should you continue building out cities on the same domain, or use different domains entirely. I would say keep building out cities on the same domain.

Chris: Yeah, I read it the same way, Bradley, so yeah.

How To Fix Videos Without Thumbnails In Search Results Page?

Bradley: Okay. He says, “If I can be cheeky and ask one more quick one. Do you ever have videos on page one with no thumbnail?” Yes, it happens often. I have one here with just a black screen, yes, that's been kind of a glitch that's been going on for a few months. “For another keyword the same video on page two shows my thumbnail, very weird. Is there a way to fix this?” No, as far as I know there's no way to fix it. It's just an anomaly with Google's algorithm. I know some videos will show with a black thumbnail for some reason. It's odd, because sometimes they'll show with a black thumbnail and then other times they'll show with the actual thumbnail. It's kind of hit or miss. Some keywords show it, some don't. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I do not know how to fix it. I believe it's just a glitch with Google. They're going to have to fix it.

I've also had videos that index, but no thumbnail shows. Not even a placeholder, like the black placeholder that you're talking about. I've had videos index, but it looks like just a regular text listing. That's weird too.

Which Bitly Link To Use When Building Tiered Links In IFTTT Network?

Okay, Ed says, “Hey guys, with regard to the new Bitly Profile link …” Ed, I read your question earlier. I'm assuming you're not in IFTTT V2 or SEO Academy V2, because if you were, we did a update webinar on Bitly already. Go check the update section of the members area, and there's a video about that. There's a video in the updates section as well as during the update webinar that we did. There's actually, it's been mentioned twice already. Bitly sun setted their public profile pages, it's not a big deal. It just means you don't add a Bitly profile link in with all your other links when you're interlinking properties. That's all. You still use Bitly, you just don't have a profile link anymore. That's all.

Chris: Right. What I wanted to add to that is that Bitly will still turn your 301's into 302's if you spam them. That's still the case. We have been advising, time and time again, if you're doing some advanced stuff, like 301's and spam and those kind of things, do not use Bitly, because Bitly will turn your 301's into 302's, and all of your link building will be pointless. At that point, I wouldn't use Bitly if you're building tier links or something like that, just because they will still show that spam notice, whatever it is.

Bradley: Yeah. What's interesting is Bitly will do that too, arbitrarily. It's weird. Sometimes without even spamming a Bitly link, it will add a spam attribute. It basically just makes it a 302 link. Sometimes, it could be the cleanest, most pristine link that you've never done anything questionable with, and they'll still sometimes just add a spam tag to it. I don't know why that is, so just keep that in mind.

What Are Some Precautions When Using Authority Sniper With Google's Feedburner?

Next question. R. Bacon says, “Just purchased the authority sniper. I was wondering if there was any precautions I should take with regard to the feed burners, since that is connected to Google?” I don't think so, but you can add multiple accounts to it. If you are worried about it. The way that I typically do things is that I have persona accounts anyway, that are themed. If I'm going to be creating a feed about plumbing, then I'm going to pick the persona account that's a plumber. All of the feed burner feeds that I create, or it could be a bit broader, it could be home improvement related, or whatever. That persona's account that I'm going to be using has most likely been already themed around that particular topic or niche. Again, you can add multiple Google accounts to it. That's what I would do, is just grab one of your persona accounts from one of your IFTTT networks, or a few of them, and kind of theme them. Make sure you label them properly in your RSS Authority Sniper software so that you know what they are when you go to select them.

How To Generate Content For E-Commerce Sites?

Laurie says, “Hi everyone. We have a potential client asking for help with their website. They have a domain name that redirects to an e-commerce site. It has no capability of a blog, so it is very thin with content. Short of a paid advertising campaign, do they have any suggestions? Thanks so much.” They have a domain name that redirects, well yeah, if they have a domain name sure you can put a sub-domain on that domain and install WordPress and use that as a blog. Laurie, even if the domain itself redirects, I'm assuming it's probably a masked redirect. In other words, when it redirects to that URL that you're listing here, it's probably still showing their domain name. Am I right?

I'm assuming that's the way that it is, that it might redirect, but it's a masked redirect. If that's the case, you could just put a sub-domain on. You would have to use a DNS mapping service like Amazon Route 53 or Cloud Player or something like that, but you could create a sub-domain and point that to a regular hosting account. Then put WordPress on the sub-domain, and just use that as your content distribution engine, your blog essentially. It could be blog.yourclientsdomain.com. You know what I mean?

Adam: Yeah, and then you just put a link. I know some people get confused when they're thinking about this, and get lost in the sub-domain part. You just be sure, put a link on your site somewhere, like, “Hey, this is our blog.” Or whatever.

Marco: If you guys look at that URL, it's already on a sub-domain.domain.com, so all they have to do is add blog.domain.com, and use the blog as the content driver to rank the content on the main domain, since it's content thin anyway. To rank the products and services, or whatever is being offered. We do that all the time.

Bradley: I think the thing is, it's an e-commerce solution, so I'm not sure that she has access to add a sub-domain to this. If she does, yeah absolutely, then just put blog.whatever. If you don't, if you're using your own custom domain and it just redirects to this because you don't have access to control this, then you could still just create a sub-domain on your root domain and just map it over to a regular hosting account. Then install Word Press there. Again, that's just going under that assumption, if you have a custom domain and it redirects to here, it's probably masked.

Hernan: Yeah, that's exactly what I did for a client. They were having something like Volusion or something as their main e-commerce website, and their main e-commerce was out of my hosting. We hire another hosting just for the blog, because it was like Shopify, the main domain was maxed to the Volusion platform. Via DNS, we had to open a blog.domain.com and start blogging over there. It was an extra step that you need to take, Laurie, because Word Press, it would take a ton of time for you. In this case you do not even have blog capability, but in case some other clients come with another e-commerce project, like Magento or whatever, Shopify, et cetera. It takes a ton of time to learn Word Press, so it will be always better to work with that. Otherwise it's not worth it, or they need a ton of money.

Bradley: That's like when I get any client on a custom web platform and they ask me, would I be willing to optimize? I tell them no. I tell them flat out, “I'll provide consulting services, that I can give instructions to your web master to do it, but I'm not going to learn a new platform for one client.” There's no way they're going to pay me enough to do that.

Which To Choose Between RYS Academy And MasterMind?

Okay Brian Dunn says, “Your road map doesn't include RYS. What Are Your Favorite SEO Task Management Tools For Outsourcers?

Bradley: Jenny says, “Afternoon gentlemen. Thank you all for your hard work in these Hangouts. I will plus one that. What do you guys use for SEO task management? Any favored apps or workflow for outsources and the like?” Adam's pinging me. Cameraman. Sorry, I've gotten distracted with Facebook Live this time guys. Okay. Now it should be a bigger video. Okay, SEO task management. You know what, I've always used, for a long time now, about two years now, I've been using Trello for training. Recently, within about the last four or five weeks now, I've been using an app called Flow, which is like, I should show a demonstration of it real quick. It's freaking fabulous. It's going to be highlighted in that new training course that's launching at the end of this month, called Outsource Kingpin. We're talking about that a lot. It's not necessarily an SEO task management tool. It's a workforce management app, and it's really cool.

The reason why, any of you that haven't done Trello yet, haven't used Trello, I think it's great for training and creating working procedures for specific tasks. If you guys aren't familiar with what I mean by working procedures, that's where you take a task and you document how to do it, both in video and with written out or documented steps. Linear steps, step one, step two, step three, in order to complete that task. With Trello, I would put tasks into Trello boards that would have the step by step process. It was hard to organize the tasks into higher level projects, at least I found it difficult to. I find Trello to be awesome for just teaching the working procedures for a particular task.

However, Flow, let me show this to you guys real quick. I think it's called getflow.com is the name of the … It's a paid app though, that's the difference. Just so you guys know. Let's go here. I'll log in and just show you guys. I started using this about four, five weeks ago with one of the teams that I'm working on, the ATM site building team. Let me show you guys what this looks like, why I like this so much. This is like a combination of Trello along with Slack, the chat app, which we use for semantic mastery anyways, my partners and I, we're always chatting in Slack. Slack is the developer of this, so everything integrates. They also have a time tracking software, it's called GetHarvest.com, that integrates with this as well, so you can star to actually track the amount of time spent on each task. Like when you start to build an outsourcing team, you can monitor how much time is being spent on every task. There you can see where who's being more efficient than others. Then you can go and ask, “Why is it taking you twice as long to do something it is somebody else? Is there something that you don't understand? Do you need some additional tools?” Whatever.

This is the app guys, if you take a look at this. Here's the team that I've been working on, what they call work spaces. This is ATM site building. You can see over here some of the projects that we work on. What I like about this is, for example, if I look at the campaign review, if I come up here and change the view to can ban, the can ban view version is the same as Trello. Any of you have seen me talk about Trello before at all, I always talk Trello up this way. This is a technique that I actually learned from Peter Garrity. That's create these lists to do, doing, done and needs attention. When a VA comes in, in this case the team leader, this is Hazel, our team leader for this particular team. When she comes in, she grabs this card, which is a task, and drops it in here, into doing. She opens it up and it shows all the tasks that need to be completed. What they call sub-tasks, that she can go right on down the line and check it off. When she's done she puts it in the done list.

If something happens, and she's unable to complete the entire task. Let's say that she gets down to this point and she gets stuck, then she can drag this over to needs attention, and I'm subscribed to this board, so that when something gets dumped into the needs attention list, I get notified of it, and I can come open it up. She can actually leave a comment if she wants, in the actual task. Let me close this and you can see it. She can leave comments and say why she had to stop at that particular sub-task. Then I can go resolve the issue for her, give her assistance, whatever, and then drag it back over to to-do, once I've resolved the issue. She can bring it back and work on it again. This isn't necessarily an SEO specific work management app, and hopefully Jenny you weren't asking specifically about an SEO management app, but this one itself, Flow, is really cool. It is a paid app.

Trello is free, but Trello I think is much more difficult to organize stuff into more general projects. Where you combine multiple tasks into overall projects or procedures, does that make sense, then this one I find to have a lot more functionality. I don't know, hopefully you guys found this interesting. I'm going to be transitioning, trying to bring in most of all my working procedures into this, into Flow and using it. We're paying for it right now. It's like $59 a month for up to ten team members, or ten sub-accounts or whatever it is. It's very valuable though. I've found this to be one of the easiest ways to manage a team, and I just started using it about four or five weeks ago.

This Stuff Works

Bradley: What's good about this is it's not only, not exclusively for SEO. It will help you a ton. I've been using Trello for awhile now, but what's good about this kind of project management, or task management, is that first you will need to go through the hard work of actually splicing, or kind of dividing your main task into little tasks for your VA's. That's what we did with V2, et cetera. I think this goes two ways. It will allow you to actually manage your projects, but it will allow you to be actually more picky, I would say, with the tasks you're giving to your VA's, which I think is great.

Bradley: Yeah. Like I said, in here they've got a chat app. You can create chat rooms and assign specific people to it. You can assign workers, team members. Again, it will integrate with Harvest. I'm only pitching this, guys, because I think it's such a good program. This is the other thing. Those of you that are starting to build out teams, this is something that's going to be, I'm working on building out the management procedures right now, with Hazel. As soon as I'm done working with her in building these out, then I'm going to work on bringing the individual builders, which are her subordinates, the people that she manages. We're going to bring all their tasks into here, and have it set up in a hierarchy.

That's when we're going to install this Harvest right here, which is the time tracking app that integrates with it. That way we can start to identify, from our workers, who's being the most productive, and people that aren't being as productive, why, we can address that. We can make sure that they're clocking in every day, they're giving us eight hours a day, five days a week, 40 hours a week basically, all of this. Again, this is something that we're going to be integrating into our system. Up until now, I've done everything just using Trello and Google Docs, and that's pretty much it.

Would You Disclose The Relationship Between Child Sites To The Parent Site Within A Network?

Okay, good question. Next one. Chris says, “Questions submitted via support desk. Customer prefers not to disclose their name. If you lived in Buffalo and were going to create a Buffalo home services network of sites, doing everything from landscaping to home repair, and you were going to be starting from scratch and using RYS, IFTTT to build it all, would you blatantly claim the relationship between the sites and their connection to the parent DHS network so you were 100% publicly claiming everything about how they're related, or do you see that as just being way too risky? Is there some other reason you wouldn't even think of doing that? If you were just going to out claim it and also have a spare LLC laying around, would just use that LLC to do it, so it's even more legit, and use that single business to create all the pages, YouTube channel, and everything from all the different home trades? If not, which persona approach would you take?”

Okay. It's a bit of an involved question. I would have to think about that. I don't see a problem with having a consistent brand across all of them. However, I would try to limit my risk in a way, such as be building out sites on sub-domains and such so that I could separate liability, my exposure in other words, in case any one of my sites were to get hit. Here's my point. If I was going to say like Buffalo Home Services, maybe I would call it like BHS.com, or BuffaloServices.com, or something like that. Let's say you were going to go with that. Then I would build out maybe industry specific sub-domains. We already know that the site is going to cover just the Buffalo area. You've got that in the root domain, so that's pretty apparent.

What I would do is probably do like landscaping, plumbing, HVAC, all of those would each be individual sub-domains. The only reason I say that, instead of putting it all on one site, you could put it all on one site, just so you know. If you were going to do that, then it would be all the same brand anyways. You wouldn't have anything to do about linking out different sites and all that. I would all be the same site, and that's perfectly okay. You would want to silo the site out that way too, but if you were to every do anything that Google didn't like, then they slap your site, you're going to lose all of it. You've got to keep that in mind.

What I would probably do is build it out on one domain. I understand you're asking, “Should you be using different domains?” Personally no, I would try to build that as a brand, potentially, the Buffalo Home Services as a brand, so why not build everything out on sub-domains of that root site? The root site could then be like a billboard for your brand. In other words, it's like an online brochure, it explains what Buffalo Home Service is, what your vision is, what kind of service you're trying to provide to the area. Then from there it could actually link to the sub-domain sites as kind of a directory. The root domain would be almost like an index page. Then all of your sub-domain sites would be covered. From there, the only reason I would do that is in case any one of your sites were to get hit for something, it wouldn't affect all the other ones. If your HVAC site got hit with a penalty for some reason, then your plumbing site should be fine, it shouldn't be affected. How would you do it Hernan?

Hernan: Yeah, definitely I would go the sub-domain route. I think it was Marco who shared that Viper Chill. I'll see if I can find it. The Viper Chill post. It was like 16 companies own, probably the first page of Google, and they are blatantly related. Those are called money block networks. Instead of private blog networks, those are called like that. There are a bunch of cases where you have even different domains all under the same IP, on the same server. Google does not penalize them, and they are all interlinked.

I think that as long as you are honest with your clients, et cetera, and you're telling them, “Hey, we are part of these networks.” You should be fine. You are open, you are out there and you are actually owning your content, which is what we have been preaching all of this time. I would definitely go the sub-domain route, just in terms of protection and to actually leverage your own SEO efforts. If you do like landscaping.bhs.com, and then you do home repair, home repair will be easier to rank than landscaping, and so and so of the subsequent domains because of domain authority, et cetera. I think that would be the best way to go.

Marco: I went over this on Monday. You validate the entity, right? That's why all these people can get away with it, all these other big companies. The difference between those and private blog networks is entity creation. They validate it, we don't. That's when we get in trouble.

Bradley: That's what I was saying. I would be trying to build that as a brand, Buffalo Home Services, because guys, brands are rewarded, in part because they're validated entities, which is what Marco was just saying. That's in part why they get rewarded, because there's semantic validated entities. That's part of it. That's why I would say, go ahead and claim it. As far as the LLC, that's up to you. That's more of a business call, as to whether or not you'd want to have. IF you're going to be building out a large network of sites all around that particular brand, then it would make sense to have a separate entity specifically for that business, for Buffalo Home Services.

For example, you guys know I run a ton of lead gen sites. I run everything under my main corporation, my local market consulting business. I just use, I've got some DBA's, I've got to be honest, some of them I don't have DBA's for, but some of them I have DBA's for. However, one of my clients is a particular contractor that I've got a bunch of sites for him, all over the place. That's under a particular brand. In retrospect, I probably should have created a separate corporation for that, because I do a ton of lead gen stuff for him, and we do equity share anyway, and there's some benefits to having a separate entity for that one particular business because we have such a network of sites, all from that same business. I don't know if that makes sense.

What I'm saying is, I've got things underneath my main corporate marketing account that are in like the home services industry, a lot of different sites like that. I think for the larger sites, the larger projects that I work on that cover multiple sites, that should almost be its own entity. For accounting purposes, there's a lot of benefits to having it like that. Again, that's going to be a little bit more red tape on your part. It's not hard to do though, LLC's are easy to set up. Yeah, that's how I would do it. I don't see anything else left to answer in that question. That was a pretty intense question.

Greg says, “Holly just joined your IFTTT training this week, and have to say it's …” That must be hi, it's probably auto-corrected or something. “Just joined your IFTTT training this weekend. I have to say it's one of the most organized courses I've ever seen, and I have seen many over the years. Good job.” Plus one that. Thanks Greg. Appreciate that.

How To Manage The Access Of An Account From Multiple IP?

Kevin says, “Hey guys, have a few questions about setting up networks. Do we only use one USA proxy per network, per business? Which accounts absolutely need to be phone verified? If any accounts ever need to be re-verified, does the number need to work to receive re-0verify messages, or do I need to paste the phone numbers to re-verify? What's the best way to manage a client not being able to sign into an account to bind their IP, or client signs in for multiple different IP's? Thanks as always.”

Okay, couple questions. One USA per proxy per network per business. No, you don't have to do that man. You'd need a lot of unique proxies then. You don't need to use any proxies if you're only creating a handful of accounts. For example, the Get it Done network that I created for the IFTTT V2 training, I created that under my own IP. I showed how to use proxies, because I don't build a whole lot of networks anymore, I have VA's that do that for me. However, if I was building a bunch of networks, I would definitely be using proxies. I just don't need them because I don't build them very often anymore. If I build one network every three months, then I can create it under my own IP, it's not an issue.

Kevin, if you're building a bunch of networks, let's say that you just have five dedicated proxies, then on Monday you build a network with proxy one, Tuesday proxy two, all the way through. When you get to the following Monday, you go back to proxy one again. Does that make sense? You're just cycling through. It doesn't matter. You can actually, we've tested this, but you can create two accounts, you can probably create more, but it will start to force the phone verification when you create the account. You can get away with creating two accounts, per IP, in a 24 hour period. If you've only got two or three IP's or proxies, spread them out. Use it for 24 hours, create one or two account sets, and then switch to another proxy. Then in 24 hours, or more, let's say you wait two days, you can go back and use that first IP again. That make sense?

As far as the phone numbers, what we do when we create the accounts, we record, take the phone number and copy and paste it into the spreadsheet, or account workbook. Then if we go to sign into the account and Google triggers the re-verification, which happens from time to time, most of the time all it's going to ask you to do is paste the number in that was used when you created the account. You can just copy that phone number out of your spreadsheet, paste it in, and it will unlock your account. The other thing that you can do is create the page login, which is what I recommend, and that's why it's part of the process of the IFTTT, when we create the accounts and everything, is to create a Google page login. Guys, by the way, all these sign in issues that we're talking about, pretty much are exclusive to Google. I don't have sign in issues with any of the other accounts. It's just Google that has this happen. Keep that in mind.

When I'm talking about a page login, I'm talking about creating a Google Plus page login, and logging in and doing everything through that, because that doesn't trigger phone verification. If you have the page login details, you won't get verification issues. You do get verification issues if you try to log into a profile, which is a main Google account, from a foreign IP. What I mean by foreign is I mean unrecognized, and unrecognized IP. Also, sometimes if it triggers a re-verification and it doesn't give you the option to paste the phone number in that you used when you created the account, then it will ask you to put a new phone number in and verify that you're human. It'll be a text message.

Just so you guys know, we've been having trouble recently, even with our Philippines VA's, being able to phone verify accounts using sim cards. I know that other people have had issues with like call fire numbers not working anymore. I know burner numbers are still working for Google, but those days are numbered probably as well. They're getting much better at being able to determine whether they're burner phone numbers, or throw away phone numbers or not. Just keep that in mind. I actually started buying phone verified Gmail accounts now, and that's what our VA's are actually using now as well, because we're having difficulty phone verifying Google accounts the way that we had been. You can always buy phone verified accounts as well, is what I'm saying. All right. The provider that I'm using for that is listed in the IFTTT SEO Academy training. You can buy them from him.

What Are The Latest Anchor Text Rules When Building Web Pages?

Hump Day Inception. I love that. This is tag team back again. Whoop there it is. “What is the latest anchor text rules when it comes to building web pages? Iftu brought a question, what not to do when building anchor text.” Just don't hammer away on exact match anchors, mainly. Stick with mainly brand and URL anchors. What else you want to say? Longer phrases. Use questions. Questions are great for anchor text right now, because that triggers the mobile and the rank brain and hummingbird. Right Marco? It tickles those parts of the algorithm?

Marco: It's the Google tickle, man.

Bradley: The Google tickle.

Hernan: There's also a great tool that I'm going to paste on the event page. It's called Title Generator, which I have been using for, some of them make sense. You just put a keyword, whether it's a noun or a verb, in a box and it will generate a ton of titles that you can actually use them as titles, but use them as anchors as well, from within your post, whether linking internally or externally. It's a great tool. It's free, it's super simple. Some of the titles do make sense, some of them don't, but I think it's a great tool to generate those long anchors that we want to use to have a more natural anchor text.

Bradley: Yeah. That's a great point. The other thing is, guys, you know one of my favorite tools of all times ever is Power Suggest Pro. This is a great tool too. Stick your keyword in there, have a handful of keywords. I'm sure you already have those anyway. Use Google. You can actually use Yahoo and Amazon and Bing, and everything else as well, YouTube if you want, it doesn't matter. My point is, post your keyword in there, then hit search, it'll spit out a long list of suggested phrases from any one of the search engines that you select. Those will give you great ideas for anchor text too, because they'll be very diverse, and it's stuff that people actually type in and search for. Those are great keywords to use. You don't have to just stick with Google either. You can get other ideas. We're talking about just for generating anchor text. Keep it diverse, but it'll still have your keyword in it. These are great terms for anchor texts.

What Are The Anchor Text Rules For Citation Descriptions?

That's Adam yelling at me again in the Slack chat. “Also, what are the anchor text rules regarding citation descriptions?” I don't know what you mean by that? Anchor text rules regarding citation descriptions? If you just mean like, what is your keyword rules regarding citation? With citation descriptions, I try to give it like a compelling, consider it a call to action, because most citation descriptions are going to be very limited in how much you can put in there. A lot of times they're very short descriptions. They won't allow you more than like 500 characters, and even sometimes that's a lot. Sometimes it's like 200 characters, something like that. Usually when I'm doing citation descriptions, and I hope this is what you're asking about, DC, because maybe I'm just misinterpreting the question.

Usually citation descriptions are very little, so they don't offer a lot of room. Most of the time, obviously, I'm purchasing them from a citation building service like Loganix or Marketer Center. They will give you a little text area that you put in the short business description, and that's what's going to be used anyways. As far as that, I usually just try to get the main keywords into the citation description. Whatever the main services or product that I'm selling. Most of the stuff that I do is for service, you know tree service, for example, we'll say, “Offering residential and commercial tree trimming and removal services in blah blah blah area and surrounding areas.” You get the keyword in there, the service keyword, the location keyword, that's all I usually do. It's very short. It'll say, “Call for an estimate.” Whatever, very short, compelling call to action, but it has the keywords in there. Just don't stuff it if you don't need to.

The other thing to keep in mind, this is a question that comes up often, when people say, “Well how do you get to rank in the maps pack for your secondary keywords? If you're ranking for your primary keywords, how do you rank for your secondary keywords?” Well that's one way guys that you do it. Build additional citations on other directories. You're going to have your core citation directories that you want your business in, in the business description, you're going to want to put the main keywords, your primary keywords. When you get done, you want to go after the secondary directories, hyper local directories, things like that, where you put in the secondary keywords in the business description. That's going to start to build that other relevancy to that listing. That will help you to start to rank, that and other things that you can do, will help to rank for other keywords in maps, as well as you can also do that same process to rank in other maps areas.

That's a little bit more advanced, and we talk about that inside the MasterMind. Hopefully that makes sense to you. As far as anchor text, there is no anchor text that I know of in citation descriptions, so I'm not sure what you meant by that, other than I'm just assuming you mean keyword density, essentially.

What URL Shortener Would You Recommend In Lieu Of Bitly?

What shortener would you recommend in lieu of …” For what, Clint? I'm not sure what you mean.

Chris: In lieu of Bitly.

Bradley: In lieu of Bitly. I don't know, we use Google for a bunch of shit, but there's a ton of link shorteners.

Hernan: Yeah, in fact, I pasted a link that has 25 or something URL shorteners. Some of them are 301, some of them are 302. It's a nice resource that you can tinker with.

Bradley: Here's another one too. This is URL shorteners that allow redirects. Here's a bunch of list right here. You guys see this?

Hernan: Just be careful with GO or GL, you seen them? Not to spam directly. We had some issue by doing that.

Bradley: 301 link shorteners. Yeah, like I use Google Links very strategically. I want Google to know what I'm doing with those, so I don't use them for pure spam campaigns, but I do use them for a lot of other things. Okay, we've got give more minutes. Anna was trying to get us out of here early.

How To Fix Issue With YouTube  Video Views Recipe On CrowdSearch?

Josh Bailey says, “Having trouble with the recipe for YouTube video views that you were using, Bradley, on CrowdSearch. Maybe it was a user error. Does it still work for you?” That recipe for YouTube video views that you were using, Bradley, on CrowdSearch. I don't know what you mean. Sometimes the CrowdSearch clicks don't register as views, but that's not the point. Honestly, it's really not the point, guys. The point is to show, if you're talking about the referral traffic, it's the referral traffic.

When somebody clicks on to the YouTube video link, whether it registers your view, it doesn't matter because YouTube is aware that there was a visitor that watched the video, and they know where they came from, because they know what the referrer was. With the referral traffic, I'm assuming this is what you mean. I know sometimes your campaign will run and you'll go back and you won't see your view count going up, but it doesn't matter. That's why I use the goo.gl short links as my last hop to the video, so that I can go look at the analytics, the click analytics, on that short URL, inside of goo.gl, and I can see the clicks being delivered to the YouTube video.

It will show the referrer, the browser that they were using, where they're located, all of that. As long as YouTube is seeing that data, which they are, you're still getting the benefit. Whether the view registers or not, it doesn't make a difference. Does that makes sense? Hopefully that's clear, and I hope that's what you were asking for. I still use the campaigns all the time, and the view count doesn't go up, but it doesn't matter, my videos see improvement in ranking because of it.

Would You Avoid Using Huffington Post's RSS Feeds When Using Authority Sniper?

Sky says, “When using authority sniper would you avoid RSS feeds such as the Huffington Post?” Well it depends Sky. If you can get a category post that would be aligned with the topic, then it wouldn't be such a bad idea, but you certainly don't want to go with their broad, because there's too many damn topics. It would be unrelated. Sky, but you can do something like Feed Rinse. If you go to feedrinse.com, you should be able to create. I don't know if you can still get into it or not, but if you have a Feed Rinse account, you should be able to go in and create a filter that will only allow certain posts. It will generate a custom feed from Huffington Post. It will only allow certain posts to pass that contain a hashtag or a keyword, or whatever it is that you set up. A specific tag, whatever.

What Are Some Good WordPress Themes For Affiliate Websites?

Adam: Aright everybody welcome to your Hump Day Hangouts Episode number 66, today is the 10th of February 2016. Alright I’m going to go down the list and introduce everybody for hopefully the people who haven’t seen us before I know we get used to talking to a lot of people we have in our classes and on Hump Day Hangouts. We do the introductions because we do have new people showing up every week.

We want to make sure that they get to meet us all, know who’s actually behind this. I apologize for my screen face today I forgot that I had my webcam hooked up to my other computer and realized that 2 minutes before we went live so nobody out today. Let’s start with Chris, Chris how is it going?

Chris: Excellent how are you doing?

Adam: Okay I’m not complaining I’m inside where it’s warm and outside it is snowing so I’m good. How about yourself Hernan how is it going.

Bradley: Good man and don’t lie the other reason your camera is not on is because your beard is overgrown and unkempt.

Adam: Yeah, well it was looking kind of icy today. I tried to get a picture but my hands are frozen. Pretty nasty outside right now up here.

Adam: As far as announcements go I’m just going to run through this because we already got the questions piling up so we’re going to have to get going. I want to remind everybody IFTTT 2.0 is around the corner. We’re definitely going to be having more information coming out about that, but we’re obviously really looking forward to that. We’re going to have a cool community with that and if you’ve been thinking about joining the Masterclass.

Bradley: Yeah and probably [inaudible 00:02:48] a couple of training videos inside the platform as well but I don’t want to say when because the last couple of times I’ve mentioned it I’ve said, “Oh yeah it should be out in a couple of weeks,” and that’s been … it hasn’t happened so I’m not going to say when.

Ranking Google Maps if the Website is Hit By the Google Penguin Update

Bradley: Let me grab the screen and we’re going to get into something before we let the cat out of the bag and it runs around crazy. I’m going to lock the screen on me and we’re going to get right into questions, there’s a bunch of them today. Ola Senorita quick question it’s from Mark O’Connor, “Can you still rank your maps if the main website has been attached by penguin?” Yeah you can.

You can but I would still try to clean up your link profile though but as far I know you can. A lot of the legion sites that I do I don’t even focus on organic at all ranking the sites for organic. There’s a co-relation between your website and your maps position and the local 3-packs for sure.

I think there’s a more of a relationship there between the on page and how you connect it with your maps page and also with the citations and you can do link building to the citations. A lot of things like that but I know that a lot of the sites that I have ranked for lead gen properties are just ranked in maps and they might be on page 2 for organic and I really don’t care because they’re still generating leads.

I don’t really focus on organic for lead gen unless I don’t have a physical location or a spammed address or whatever. I would say yes however I don’t that I’ve had any sites that were actually penalized to be able to give you a definitive answer on that. My assumption is that you probably could but I would still absolutely work on cleaning up the link profile.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, any of you guys, but I believe that Penguin is now refreshing like Panda does. I’m not 100% sure if that’s been completely rolled out.

Hernan: That’s what I heard in fact there was some rumors about a new phantom update and what not and people are not believing that. There was no actual communication or somebody from Google saying anything but we think that it’s rolling.

Bradley: I knew that it was coming anyways and that’s good for us guys because it used to be where if you’ve got an algorithmic penalty from penguin penalty. It was a pain in the ass to try to clean up because you’d have to wait until another big update.

I spent months and months on a client’s site cleaning up the link profile and it never made any difference until they did the last big Penguin refresh. Then it came back, jumped back to where previous Penguin state and started ranking really, really well but it took forever.

I probably didn’t need to do near as much work because it had already been cleaned up but it wasn’t refreshing. Like the Panda algorithm refreshes roughly every 20 days. The Penguin is supposed to be refreshing as well so that it will make it more responsive to any type of changes that you make to your link profile.

I would absolutely try to work on cleaning that up but in the meantime you could also work on making the relationship stronger between the site itself and the maps page which, Mark I don’t know if you’re in Masterclass actually I guess that was mastermind. We did a whole entire webinar about this last week for mastermind a full 2 hour webinar about it.

It was all about local and how to rank in the 3-packs and I don’t know if you’re a mastermind member yet or not but you might want to join because we talk a lot about stuff like that in there. The relationship between those two is going to be important and also semantic hubs, trying to get in a lot of places where you can link your properties altogether included your branded network properties, link building to those, link building to citations things like that are going to make a big difference.

Don’t just try to get in local business direct or business directories like national business directories. You should also try to get in niche specific directories as well as hyper-local directories for your site. Which again we talked about how to do that in mastermind last week.

Those kinds of things are really going to give you a boost in maps because a lot of people aren’t looking for those, what I call hyper-local directories. Those are places that you can get links that are … Remember the two types of links that you’re trying to get to your maps listing or to help boost your map’s position are going to be either topically relevant or geographically relevant or location relevant. That’s what I was looking for that word location relevant.

If you can get both that’s even better but typically you’re going to either get a national business type directory like Yelp or Yellow Pages or something. If you can also get like if it’s a plumber site for example plumbing directory listings and then also getting local directory listing for your actual local city or local municipality.

A lot of times there’s business directories specific to your local area or your country and those are all the good places to get links from. Then you use those by the way as tier 1 links that you can build additional links to.

He says he had a client who had bad SEO done in the past, “Would you still rank your maps with all the citation works, schemer markup etcetera with a penguin penalty link over to maps?”

Yeah again my assumption is that you still could but I would still make it an effort to clean up the backlink profile. It’s not that difficult to do guys if it’s not a manual action. A manual action where you get notified in search console if it’s an algorithmic action, it’s really not that difficult to do because you just go in and identify the spammy links and just disavow them.

If it’s a manual action Google is going to want to see that you had some sort of outreach to try to get the links removed. You have to document an outreach, a campaign to where you’ve tried to contact webmasters and get the links removed and that kind of stuff. With an algorithmic penalty where there’s no manual spam action taken you can just basically identify the links that you think are spammy and just submit them as disavow file.

Then what you do is take the links from that disavow file and send them through an indexer so that they get pinged and crawled again and Google recognize that you’re requesting to disavow them so it’s not that difficult to do.

Related Content from Third Party RSS Feeds in IFTTT Networks

Okay Jacky this is her question, she says, “Are you getting the related content you mentioned in your detailed tiered IFTTT networks and are related or SS integration article from third party RSS feeds like the home improvement example you gave for reference?

Yeah that’s what it says in the training Jacky. If you’re looking for related content feeds you just go find related content feeds from third party sources. That’s pretty much the reason why they’re called related content feeds. If this was a roofing site, client site was a roofing site and you’re going to inject tier 2 networks additional content sources at the tier 2 triggers.

Then you’d want to go out and find additional content sources typically you’re going to probably have a hard time finding specifically just roofing content. What I would do is suggest that tier 2 which is perfectly okay to do is to go a bit broader with like home improvement stuff period.

You could look at like Bob Villa ‘This Old House’, Do It Yourself Network, DIY Network. A lot of those different types of sites and use those as content triggers. You could even if you wanted to setup filters to where it would only use something like feedrinse.com or something like that. Where you can set it up to where it will only pass certain types of content through if it’s over-active feed which a lot of those will be.

You can setup filters to where it only allows certain keywords to pass or blog post with certain keywords in them or tags or tags in the title whatever that you could do. You could setup certain kind of filters, but that’s exactly where you want to use other people’s content there so that you’re reducing your footprint out of tier 2. Jacky says … did somebody say something? Somebody chiming in?

Bradley: I don’t think so.

Marco: No I don’t think so.

Recommended Semantic-Ready Plugins for WordPress Themes

Adam: I must be hearing things. Jacky says, “I don’t want to use the Network Empire WP semantic theme for my money site because they’re not pretty but they rank like crazy. What semantic plugins do you suggest I use for my beautiful WordPress theme unfortunately not semantic really beside that meta tags mentioned by Chris.”

The one that I would suggest is that I haven’t tested yet I did pick it up but I didn’t test it yet but we’ve had a lot of our mastermind members that are testing it that say like have a really, really good results with it. It’s going to be launched I believe on the 18th which is in 8 days from today. It’s either the 17 or the 18 but it’s called Project Supremacy, let’s tag Jacky on this one.

Bradley: I already posted it.

Adam: Oh you did well there you go. You want to see my fast draw? You want to see it again? There you go Project Supremacy that’s supposed to be a really good plugin, it’s a schemer plugin, it that will do a bunch of stuff. I heard a lot of people in the mastermind that have been raving about it.

Like I said I’ve picked it up as a pre-launch too but haven’t got a chance to test it yet. At some point I will and I will do a review on it guys, but for right now I would suggest just trying that. There won’t be a release, like I said to the general public for another week or so but apparently it’s one of the best plugins out for that kind of stuff so check it out.

Building Links Using GSA & FCS Networker in IFTTT Network 

Joel says, “Hi Bradley when building links with GSA or FCS networker should the links be built to individual posts on the IFTTT?” We got to make this a frequently asked question Adam if you don’t mind because this comes up almost weekly now.

Adam: When building should the links be built, sure.

Adam: Because we’ve answered this question and it’s fine Joe I’m not mad at you I’m just saying this question comes up almost weekly at least bi-weekly. If you can make a note of it we’ll get April to cut this out for FAQ.

Adam: Yeah got it.

Adam:When building links with GSA or SCS networker should the links be built to individual posts on the IFTTT properties or should they built to the homepage of the properties? I would like to know this because I’m confused regarding link building package with service base. Will it build branded tier 1 links to the homepage or individual posts in the tier 2 properties?”

I’ll tell you how I do it and then we’ll talk about it. When I send my networks to have links build to them I send just the homepage URLs of all the network properties. If I’m just building links to my tier 1 network I’ll send all my tier 1 network property profile URLs.

If I’m doing it for a full 2 tier network then I’ll send all 4 rings worth it. The homepage profile URLs of all 4 rings. I’ll send that over and say, “Build links to everything.” I don’t do it to the individual posts, yes that would more effective but here’s why I don’t do that. Because every single time you make a post you’d have to go extract your post URLs from all of those blogs and that’s a ton of manual work.

The closest thing I know how to automate that is to use the Backlink Commando plugin with Backlinks Indexer. We have a blog post I don’t know Adam do you want me to dig up the URL or do you have it handy?

Bradley: I don’t have him circled yet. Well here’s automated backlink indexing. I’ll explain this here in just a second and get a blog post on this because in order to grab the URLs from all of your network properties with the post URLs, unless you’re doing that manually which I certainly don’t recommend.

If all you’re managing is like one website then you can do that because you’ve got the time that’s all you’re doing is working on one website. When you start managing several websites, dozens of websites then it’s just not practical to go extract all the post URLs every time a post is made.

I just don’t do it, I just run all my links to the homepage URLs of all my network properties. The backlinks indexer this one here, this is how I automate the backlink indexing from all the web-tos because what Backlink Commando does. Well basically it’s a plugin that you install on your WordPress site, it could be your money site or you could install it on just a subdomain, WordPress site.

Because essentially what this plugin will do is you can grab all your RSS feed URLs from all of your network properties. There’s about 7 of them that have an RSS feed URL from each network like WordPress, Tumbler, Blogger, Delicious, Digo, Pocket several of them have RSS feed URLs.

You can grab those RSS feed URLs and then add them to the Backlinks Commando plugin and all of this is shown in this walkthrough video. Then what happens is Backlink Commando you also connect an indexing service. This will run on a cron job so it will run every 2 hours or every 4 hours whatever you set your cron settings to which I recommend, and again this is mentioned in the video, but I recommend using and external cron for that instead of your WordPress cron.

It will basically go out and every time it runs like every 4 hours, let’s say that you set up for every 4 hours. It will read all the RSS feeds that you’ve submitted to the plugin from all your web-tos, it will extract all the post URLs and then it will put them in a queue to be sent to the backlinks indexing service.

That’s the closest thing I know how to do to get those web-to links, the post URLs indexed or to build links to them is that way. I recommend using backlinks indexer for that because they’ll build like other web-to links to those links. As far as doing it manually, again if you’re only doing a couple of properties that you have then yeah you can do that and you can absolutely build links to those post URLs.

The problem is then the links that you’re building to those post URLs will only benefit those particular post URLs. Whereas if you build links to the homepage remember let’s say that you’ve got 5 or 10 posts on your homepage before it starts to paginates, before old posts start pushing off the page and go to like page 2. Then all of those posts on that page will benefit from those links.

That’s why I like to do that because it just makes it easier and I just boost up the home pages. That way when I’m adding new content to my networks the new content is automatically going to benefit from all that juice that was built to the homepage URLs.

By the time the stuff paginates like it gets 5 or 10 posts down and it actually moves to page 2 it generally will have saddled in to where it’s going to be ranking anyways.

Bradley: If I can just chime in on this Joel if you want an extra layer of juice for those keywords that are ranking on probably bottom page 1 or page 2. If you need an extra push for those after you’ve done, you’ve gone ahead and you’ve submitted the home pages you can go back and check on your blog post or make a new blog post that will be syndicated out and targeting that keyword and point it to or linking to the internal page that you want to rank your website.

Then what I would do is to grab the pages, the internal pages where that particular post it’s been syndicated out like for example the post on WordPress, on Tumbler, on Blogger those kind of website. Then what you could do is to purchase another package, another boosting package just for those URLs.

You can combine like 2 or 3 posts like that so you will be sending link shoes just to the URLs that you actually want to push, that you actually want to rank or want to give them a push. That’s kind of a ninja strategy that I have been using and has been working really, really well.

That’s usually after the fact that you have pretty much powered up the entire structure and this is just to give them a push from bottom page 1 or top page 2 to top page 1 in that case.

Bradley: Just to answer your question on the link building packages. We will build links to whatever you send to us, whatever URLs you send to us but again I recommend that you just grab the homepage URLs of all the properties within your networks. If you just want us to build links to your tier 1 network then you just grab those URLs 20 to25 URLs and send those to us.

If you want us to do all like if you’ve got a full 2 tier network you’ve got 4 rings send us all 4 rings worth which could be 80 to 100 URLs. It’s up to you it depends on where you want to concentrate your juice. If you send us individual post URLs we’ll build links to that there’s no question.

That’s a lot of additional work is extracting those post URLs so it’s just so much easier just to go to the spreadsheet, your IFTTT account work book and just copy that column worth of URLs for your profile URLs and just paste them into the order form. It just makes it easy that way and it works well.

SEO Tasks to Prioritize for a 2-Man SEO Team

When you’re dealing with a bunch of properties that’s pretty much the only way to do it because it’s just too inefficient to do it any other way. Kenny says, “Hi guys, what’s up. I have a 2 person in-house SEO team working for me. They mostly do manual outreach for link building we’re at the point of having to try new verticals because we’ve emailed a billion people.

I’ve taught them how to create IFTTT networks, they do simple on page tasks and some social media. If you guys had a 2 person team of SEO associates for tasks like that what would you focus on as far as what they should be learning and the most effective task they should be doing daily?

That’s a good question, I would probably say doing outreach like that is great if you’ve got the bandwidth to do that, the manpower to it that’s a great way to get good links. I would say probably next would be finding 100% topically relevant expired domains and start building my own link network specific to that topical trust flow category or topic that you need because that’s what I’m doing a lot of.

I know there was another question on this page from Brian [Lichtik 00:22:32] I believe about what we’re using to scrape and find domains. Adam if you want to drop it it’s the bluechip. Terry Kyle has what’s called Bluechip Backlinks it’s a domain crawler and I’ve tried about 4 of them now different domain crawlers and his is by far the best. It’s also one of the most affordable the most cost effective and it’s really, really good.

Just for right now because it’s still working so well Marco did a post on our blog about the death of the PBN which is coming at some point probably in 2016. It’s being implemented already the changes in the algorithm for seasonal types search terms it’s coming.

For right now if you can get domains that have inbound link profiles that are 100% same topical trust flow category as what your main website is, your money site is. Then you can just purchase them for the cost of registration 10 bucks essentially 10 dollars. Then you can use those right now to build your own link networks and rebuilt the old sites, the sites that have expired with that expired domain.

You just rebuilt the old site so that they look like real sites because they were real sites you just repurchase them and rebuilt them. That’s what I’m doing right now and it’s working really, really well and all that can be handled within Bluechip Backlinks. It’s a fantastic tool it really is, it’s hands down one of the most best investments I’ve made recently.

It’s working really, really well for now that’s a good way to do it because it’s inexpensive. Building your own link networks is inexpensive I mean. I talked about this, we did a demonstration on that tool about a month ago now for Masterclass members, we did it for mastermind and Masterclass members in fact.

I was about how I’ve been using SAPE links for a year, a year and half now a lot of them through the SEOlutions.biz service. They’re a provider of safe links and I buy them in bulk. I’ve spent several hundred dollars per month on safe links and I have been for well over a year.

I’ve started eliminating a lot of those packages because I’m purchasing my own domains for 10 bucks the cost of registration and using those that are 100% relevant. They’ll literally pass if my inbound link profile were to catch a manual review those sites that are being rebuilt on expired domains are 100% topically relevant, they look like real websites because they at one time were somebody’s websites so they’re just spam blog PBN style sites.

I’m using those to build links now so I’m actually eliminating, I’m weaning myself off of all these safe links and I’m saving so much money it’s ridiculous. Instead of spending $500 or $600 in month on safe links. I’d go out and buy 50 or 60 domains and build a nice link network of 100% topically relevant sites.

Then I can eliminate that $500 or $600 per month over the course of the next 10, 12 months. I’ve saved myself literally thousands of dollars on links. It’s working really, really Bluechip Backlinks. I highly recommend you guys check it out, it’s a great tool for the cost.

It’s rather inexpensive and if you’re using third party SEO like link building services you can pretty much get rid of them if you start building your own link networks and it’s kind of an asset that will serve you at least until the death of the PBN.

One thing I know we’ve talked about before though is if you’ve got these people and they already have a good idea of what they’re doing and what they’re obviously can do [inaudible 00:26:14] to an SEO having them do client outreach, start prospecting for you, start bringing people in depending obviously on your workload.

Content Distribution for eCommerce Sites in IFTTT Networks

Doing emailing and stuff like that that would absolutely help too. Jamina says, “Hello guys Bradley you’re saying my name very close to perfect,” okay good because I always feel like ass if I’m saying something wrong, “Can you please tell me how you go about using a network on a website that’s a store?

I know that networks work best by constantly posting how does this work with pages that are already posted, do I repost that page? What about sites that sell products and don’t really have much content on their site like furniture or a plant store how do we rank those pages that are already up selling products? Thanks I really appreciated what you guys are doing.”

Yeah we’ve talked about this before Jamina, any ecommerce site you’re right they typically don’t have a lot of content. What we usually do is put a subdomain on the domain and put a WordPress blog on it and use that as the content distribution engine. Then we just blog from the WordPress blog which is on a subdomain and within the blog post we create content around the products or the product categories.

Then link within the blog post to the product pages on the sites into the actual item or sales page that the product page is on the ecommerce site, the real domain and use that. That way you can still create content that might not mix well with the ecommerce site itself but you’re using a subdomain blog instead and then creating content around that would be relevant to those products that you’re promoting on the ecom site.

Then syndicating that content out across your networks and linking to your product pages. What that does is now you’re building the SEO juice to those product pages as well as potentially funneling traffic into those pages because your content gets seen out across those network properties. It can generate traffic and it can boost your SEO that’s the point.

For pages that are already posted again I wouldn’t use IFTTT networks to syndicate product pages like the actual product pages themselves. I would just use the IFTTT networks to syndicate blog content from a subdomain in which case link to those product pages that were already posted.

It’s the same thing that we do with regular sites like local business sites or affiliate sites or whatever else. We use the blog posting to link to the pages that we’re trying to rank. It’s not so much the blog posts themselves that we’re trying to rank although you can do that too but it’s about the links within with the blog posts that we’re pointing to the pages on our sites that we want to rank. Alright so hopefully that was helpful.

Web 2.0 Ranker's Branded IFTTT Network vs SerpSpace.com's Single Tier 1 IFTTT Network

“Bradley I’m about to purchase my first IFTTT setup I was looking at Web 2.0 rankers branded IFTTT networks and also the single tier network offered in Serp Space. Is there any difference between the two, any reason to use one over the other pros, cons thanks?”

I don’t know web 2.0 ranker I think they just basically bid off our stuff because we were the first people to come out with them. I don’t know what the difference is because I’m not going to go over there and purchase the competition’s networks.

Marco: The difference is that they’re ours [inaudible 00:30:02], they’re done by us up to our specs it’s what we use in our everyday SEO, in our everyday ranking efforts. It’s what we use, we wouldn’t use anybody else’s so we don’t know what they do.

Adam: This makes sense now where some of the questions came from though powered by Twitter not RSS.

Hernan: They do look an awful lot.

Bradley: They are networks essentially it’s his own version of our networks but they didn’t come out until I …

This Stuff Works

Hernan: He’s probably reselling them.

Bradley: It could be because remember we sell them in bulk too like SEO agencies and stuff. We do bulk network pricing and maybe he is I don’t know. James I can’t answer that question I can tell you we are the ones who created them originally, they’re built to our specs. We create basically semantic networks.

They’re all tied together, it builds a strong identity which is incredibly important for ranking now is to have an identity whether it’s a personal identity or brand identity. Having that identify and reinforcing that as much as possible and that’s what our networks are all about.

I can’t really speak for the competitors, I don’t know what they’re doing and I’m not going to purchase one. If you want to purchase one and then come back to us and let us know. As a matter of act why don’t you buy from them and buy from us and do a comparison and let us know what you think.

SameAs Schema for Multiple Twitter & Google Plus Accounts of a Multi-Division Company

Sky says, “I have a client that is a division of a very large company. I’m wondering if I can use sameAs schema from multiple Twitter and Google plus accounts one account being the division and the other account the main company. The company owns division in many different industries so I’m wondering if I could gain those trust flow because they’re broad topics and if multiple accounts would confuse Google.”

I wouldn’t do that Sky, what I would do is if you want to be more specific with your same as attributes and guys he’s talking semantic markup using the same attributes. You can go schemer.org and look it up what the same as attributes are. What I would do Sky in this situation is I would use.

I’m assuming it’s a WordPress site and you can use a plugin that will allow you to inject different scripts or codes in different pages headers so that it’s not just a side wide. For example a JSON-LD markup was typically go in the head section of the website but it would be side wide.

You go to header.php file you insert the JSON-LD script and it will be a site wide script so it will load on every page. What I recommend doing in something like this it would be the same as if you’ve got one website but you’ve got multiple locations and multiple location pages.

You wouldn’t want to put the NAP, the local business schema.org markup for all locations in the header of the site because that would definitely confuse Google. The same as attribute I would treat it the same way. I would use a plugin to inject specific same JSON-LD markup schemer.org markup into specific pages.

In this case if you’ve got a site that has multiple divisions for division A I’d have one JSON-LD code and then for division B I’d have another JSON-LD code and I would insert those in those division pages on those websites. For the site wide JSON-LD markup I would just use the main corporate social profiles, the URLs for those the same as attributes.

Again you don’t want to spin that stuff guys and if you certainly can add too much stuff in schemer.org so I always try to keep it separated as much as possible. It doesn’t make sense to add a bunch of different divisions. It wouldn’t look right because you’re trying to tell Google, “Hey,” and that’s what we talk about the question I was answering or James here is when we create our networks we’re creating these relationships between all these properties.

We’re not trying to hide footprints guys like a lot of people do. We’re trying to claim our footprint we’re saying, “Hey this is us, these are all of our properties.” We’re interlinking all these properties because these are all of our, they’re extensions of us, they’re extensions of our brand.

The JSON-LD using the same as the markup, you wouldn’t want to tell, “Hey Google look we’re also over here and we’re also over where, we’re also over, we’re also over here,” it wouldn’t make sense as far as 4 Twitter accounts and things like that. I would use just the corporate stuff for site wide but then I would inject specific code into each division’s page.

I’m sure there’s some sort of silo structure on that site or some way that the site is, a hierarchy of the site you could inject it that way. Hopefully that makes sense. If you can’t do that then I would just recommend sticking with just the corporate same as attributes and that’s it. Don’t go with all the other stuff just leave those out. Does anybody want to add to that?

Hernan: I think you nailed it.

Bradley: There’s a plugin I’ve got it in one of my spreadsheets but it’s so add code to header plugin or something like that. I’ve got the name of it saved in a spreadsheet because I use it a lot.

Hernan: I use insert header or some footers.

Bradley: Yeah but that’s not page specific though is it? I think that’s site wide.

Hernan: That’s site wide but well I don’t know I’ll have to double check.

Bradley: There’s a plugin that I use if I can think about it there’s a plug in that I use and if I pause my screen I could go find it real quick. In fact let me just do that real quick and the reason I say that is because I know this question comes up often I need to bookmark it anyway so just give me one second guys.

Chris: Probably add it to the plug in area.

Bradley: Yeah probably let me check. Here we go almost there just a second here we go Oh Add Script Header Footer that’s what it is. Let me grab it we’ll go Google it. It’s called the OH Add Script Header Footer plugin. It’s free to use here it is Oh Add Script to Individual Pages Header Footer. This where you can inject a different JSON-LD code on different pages so it’s not a site wide markup it’s just only specific to the pages you add it to.

Google's Rich Snippet Tool Not Showing Review Stars of the Homepage

I’m going to add this to the page and you guy can use this. Alright very good let’s get moving. Is the screen locked on me? Yes it is. Next let’s see Jake says [inaudible 00:37:27] my question is in regarding schema. I have review portals built on WordPress when inputting into Google rich snippet tool the structure data testing tool. I get the all good message what is maddening is that rich snippet or star ratings will only show with the internal pages reviews and the [inaudible 00:37:44] but not the homepage aggregated reviews. Which is what most searches find when they do a branded search for my customers.

Customers are now asking why aren’t the stars are showing up, wondering why this is happening. Marco do you have any insight on this?

Marco: No I would have to look into it because I haven’t run across this problem.

Bradley: Home page not showing stars but gets the top ranking in branded search. I’m not sure to be honest with you again without actually looking at the code on the side I couldn’t tell you.

Hernan: The fact is that well he is using rich snippets maybe he can give your plugin a try and see if he can add the rich snippet star rating on the homepage if it isn’t add but yeah if it’s added and it’s not working we’ll need to review the code actually.

Bradley: If you’re getting it to show on individual pages but not the homepage there’s got to be something wrong with a code on it for the home page or I wonder if you’re using a plugin for that or if you’re coding that in manually or what. Obviously there’s something causing it to not show and not to display on the homepage and I’m not sure what it is without digging into it I couldn’t tell you right off the top of my head.

I’ll tell you what though if this is something that you do a lot of I think that plugin we talked about earlier called the Project Supremacy plugin will handle a lot of these stuff for you. That might be a way to streamline your process unless you’ve got something you’re already using that’s working for you well but I’m not sure why it’s doing that. I’m curious if it’s just this one client that that happens with or it if it happens.

Marco: That was going to be my question if he’s using a plugin or he’s using some sort of code? Is this a problem across all websites or it’s the homepage then the code is the problem or is it just this website there could be interference from other plugins. Without being able to go into the website to look at the code and what the code is actually doing there’s really no way to answer this.

Bradley: Yeah I agree just trying to give him some potential ideas to look at. If you’re seeing the same kind of thing across other websites and it’s either the code itself, the markup that you’re using, the structured data that you’re using. If it’s only specific to this one site then it could be a conflict like even CSS conflict could cause that right, like something wrong with that I’m assuming?

Marco: Yeah potentially.

Best Place to Get Aged Niche Relevant Domains

Bradley: There’s a lot of things that could cause that Jake sorry I would possibly circle back to that if you have some more info for us. Brian says, “Where’s the best place to get age, niche relevant domains?” We just talked about that Brian go checkout Bluechip Backlinks and again if you were in the Masterclass a few weeks ago we did a full demonstration on how to use that and training on how to use it and everything to find exactly the types of domains that you need for the cost of registration only with very little research required it’s a fabulous tool.

3-Pack Listings Using PO Boxes with Different Phone Numbers for a Store Front with Only One Physical Location

Roger says, “I have a client with a storefront that people can visit in one city it’s their one and only physical location. We want to get 3-pack listings. I swear to god we answered this question in Masterclass last week. We’ll go through it again I guess but I swear we answered this question in Masterclass last week.

Marco: If it’s something that we answered in Masterclass shouldn’t it stay in Masterclass?

Bradley: Reading this in the question Roger you could P.O. boxes and hide your street, you’d have to use a street addressing in order to be able to get it to work by Google anyways and then hide the location. However you have a storefront that people can only visit in one city so that can be misleading and I don’t like to do that.

I do that kind of stuff for websites or businesses that service the clients at their location. In other words they go to the client or their customer’s location like HVAC contractors, tree service contractors things like that where they don’t have a storefront.

Because if you’re spamming maps and hiding your address for a type of business that has a point of sale where people come to that location and you’re trying to get ranked in other adjacent cities but you don’t have a storefront in there you can piss your customers off because it’s misleading.

Even though you could spam it that way I would recommend not doing that and focusing more on organic or paid traffic for that. Seriously Google Pay Per Click for that because otherwise if you end up ranking in maps but your storefront is in another city you’re going to mislead your customers which can cause complaints and everything else and I don’t recommend doing that.

Spamming maps the 3-packs with fake addresses guys will work absolutely but I stick to doing that only with service based business where I serve the contract or the business serves their customers at their locations, the customer’s location. That’s what I would say Roger honestly I wouldn’t do it, I would tell them flat out, “Look in the areas that you do not have a storefront I’ll focus on organic SEO and or even Pay Per Click and try to setup some ads for you so that you can rank, you can generate leads that way.”

I just recently started messing with AdWords a little bit and I’ve never done it before. I did an ad words for YouTube but not Ad Words for Google search. I’m doing some of that stuff now playing with it. It’s not that intimidating once you get into it. It can work there’s no question so I would do something like that but I don’t recommend spamming 3-packs when you have a point of sale because you will just piss your customers off. It’s very misleading that way.

Overtimizing a Brand Name Keyword & Its Potential Risks

Kevin says, “Hey guys I just have quick question. I have a site that I have branded with what I found out is actually a somewhat relevant keyword around 300 searches a month. I setup my structured data and [inaudible 00:44:21] my brand name, domain, etcetera are all these keyword.

I didn’t realize that the name I chose my brand was also a keyboard but I’m curious now if I am building brand keyword anchors to my site from over optimizing my site since the brand name is also a keyword. If so will just keep my inner pages that are targeting completely different keywords from not ranking as well as they could be as always thanks?”

Yeah it could, you see that’s the problem and yours is a little bit more of a unique situation but what I’m about to say still applies. If you have an exact match domain which is why I don’t ever recommend doing that anymore like plumber Dallas for example plumberdallas.com or dallasplumber.com

First of all I wouldn’t name the business that anymore. I used to do that guys for my lead gen properties. I would name fake business like Manasas Tree Service, Dallas Tree Service and then I would get dallastreeservice.com domain I don’t recommend doing that anymore because then the brand name is a keyword.

Every time you build a branded URL or excuse me a branded anchor text link you’re going to get a keyword anchor text. Also anytime you build a naked URL link where you’re just using the URL as the anchor that also counts as a keyword. It didn’t use to but it does now. That’s why we never recommend using exact match domains anymore.

In your case you thought it was a brand but it’s also a keyword then yeah it would cause issues. Hernan I’ll ask you for your advice on this one but I would recommend, I’m not sure how I would go about that. I would probably only build links to the homepage URL if it was the anchor text of the link was a longer phrase.

More like a much longer phrase than just the brand name or the keyword because that way you could at least dilute the over optimization of the anchor text by using the brand in a longer phrase as the anchor text does that make sense?

Herhan: Yeah definitely that’s what I would do you could also use the URL like completely the URL. If you’re trying to brand your website I would use keyword.com and every time I can instead of using the keyword as the brand name I would use keyword.com like cheapshoes.com or bluewidgets.com that way you will be creating a brand awareness with the dot com and using the [inaudible 00:46:52] as well.

Bradley: It’s a variation of that URL.

Hernan: Variations of the URL but always pushing the brand as being keyword.com or bluewidget.com in that case you will be optimizing de-optimizing because you won’t be using the keyword every time and also the other way around that Bradley was saying using long phrase like [inaudible 00:47:19] or home page about bluewidgets.com on this link. All of that would be your anchor text away like big newspapers are doing for example that would also be a solution.

Bradley: That way you would keep your anchor text profile diverse enough to where you wouldn’t get an algorithmic, it wouldn’t trip and algorithmic penalty or filter I should say for being over optimized. Then whenever you ‘re doing internal, whenever you’re doing pages and posts you could link to those posts using like the titles of the post and stuff.

Which is also going to work well for you because that will de-optimize it and even if your keyword is in the root domain if you’re linking to like a post URL it’s going to be typically a much longer URL any ways, but you can use like the post titles and stuff like that might not contain that keyword anyways if that makes sense.

Building Separate IFTTT Networks for Clients with Different Industries

Hernan says as well as just use longer phrases as your anchor text just get in the habit of doing that so that you keep it more diverse. Elisa says, “Hi guys joined the Masterclass recently and going to the content you mentioned building IFTTT networks around your own YouTube channels instead of a client’s.” Yes absolutely.

“My question is if I’m working with two clients in different industries would I built two separate channels for each niche or just one big network that’s for multiple companies and use playlist for each niche with the channel. I get a bit confused on which path to take please explain a little bit more as about the best way to set this up, love the training so far thanks.”

It’s up to you unless the industries, both companies that you’re doing work for are similarly related I would setup two separate channels and start building out two separate networks for that only because I like to keep my channels related around one specific theme. It could be a more broader theme for example let’s say I had a roofing client and I had an HVAC client.

They’re both home improvement related type clients or contractors. What I would is you could do one theme channel around home improvement and do setup where you could promote roofing stuff through roofing playlist and then HVAC stuff through HVAC playlist and then landscaping stuff through that … you guys get the idea.

You could do that and that would make sense because those are at least closely related those two example contractors or businesses HVAC and roofing at least closely related. They fall under a home improvement umbrella but if they’re completely unrelated. Let’s say it was an insurance agency or an insurance broker somebody that sells insurance and then HVAC contractor.

It wouldn’t make sense in my mind to put those two on the same channel. Even if you try to separate it via playlist I wouldn’t do that. I would in that case create two separate channels entirely if that makes sense. That’s just the way I like to do it it because I try to keep everything themed because it makes more sense.

It makes and it makes the overall relevancy of that channel more effective if you’re not diluting it by trying to squeeze other categories in there that really aren’t closely related. That’s how I would do it Elise this is just if they’re related close enough go ahead and put them on channel that’s fine.

If you’re trying to save a little bit of work I’ve got no problem with that if they’re related enough, but don’t go too far of a stretch to make the related either. If they’re just really unrelated then set up two separate channels and start building out two different networks.

Bradley: Okay this is Keith Goodwin, “A question on the RSS feed plugin from what I can see WordPress now adds two links back to the post for each feed, entry, the title of the entry and the read more link at the bottom. Neither are no follow but neither show in the indicated article.

If I use the Yoast plugin anything there that uses the available shortcuts gets added but is nofollow however if I delink back to the site as HTML and yes the link is dofollow that’s correct. Anything I add with the SM RSS plugin was also nofollow. There’s an option for that inside the RSS plugin there should be at least unless that’s just for the premium. Is Chris on or no?
Adam: In spirit only.

Bradley: The plugin has the nofollow checkbox right?

Chris: Yeah.

Bradley: Was that just for the premium version or is that for the free version too?

Chris: I’m not sure I got to check.

Bradley: Well there should be a checkbox in the settings for that at least I know in the premium version it does Keith. Keith is a mastermind member now correct? I think he joined the mastermind before we raised prices so if that’s the case.

Chris: Just use the premium one.

Bradley: Most yeah use the premium one which means and as a mastermind member you can download that just make sure you’re using the most current version. Which is the only version that’s on the download page right now. “If I have dofollow link back to the site can anyone tell me how to get a dofollow link back to the post?”

Again if you’re using our plugin that’s why we did that was so that you could set it to follow or nofollow but I like it to go obviously to dofollow and then what I do is add a spin tag in for the hard-coded link back to the homepage and I had a spin tag with follow/nofollow.

Let me just go take a look at this real quick. In the example text this is the free version plugin Keith. As a mastermind member you can get the premium version as well but if we click on this, this shows the demo spin tags that we use for the hard-coded link back to the homepage if you’re using branded network spin tags. Then you’ll see that right here I’ve got a spin tag for follow/nofollow.

Its rel equals nofollow and then there’s the spin bracket and then there’s a blank. What that’ll do is it’ll variate 50% of the time there will be a follow link, it will be a follow link back to the homepage and 50% of the time it won’t be and that’s just to give it more variety.

The post URL which would be this right here, this token right here for post link that’s going to always be do follow if you have the plugin settings such that they’re not nofollow links. That’s what’s we did so hopefully that made sense. Just make sure you got the most current version of the premium plugin because that option is there for sure.

We’ve got to wrap up in just a couple of minutes we’ll get through just a couple more we’re almost done anyways. “Someone just came out,” this is David, “Someone just came out with something called artificial intelligence where they are building IFTTT syndication networks.” Okay well good for them I hope that works out for them.

Adam: I think that’s Peter Drew.

Bradley: That’s Peter Drew’s thing that’s different though and we actually had one of our mastermind members submitted a support ticket asking about that because I actually purchased into that as a beta tester to test them out. Peter Drew is a good guy we cross promoted stuff of his and I like Hangout Millionaire.

It’s called the AI profiles I know what you’re talking about David and those are good networks they’re good for video syndication networks they’re not to be used for website. They’re not branded networks like what we build so my reply to that when somebody ask me what the difference is and he even said in his support tickets, “Sell me on why I should buy yours instead of theirs.”

I’m not saying you should just buy ours instead of his I’m saying they serve different purposes. Our branded networks especially guys we’re creating a semantic hub, a semantic relationship that gives a strong identity whether it’s a personal identity or a brand identity. We keep trying to drive this home guys there’s so much importance or weight put on brand and authority now because we’re in the semantic web, Web 3.0.

We create this really strong network of sites that are themed, consistently themed around our brand. Whether it’s for a branded YouTube channel, or a branded website, client site, money site, blog, affiliate site it doesn’t matter. We’re creating a very strong network of branded properties.

Then you can add as an addition tiered properties on their especially like we recommend for YouTube stuff which is great because again it’s 100% automated. The stuff that Peter Drew is putting out he creates networks too there’s definitely some overlap there because as part of his AI profiles setup it uses IFTTT but it also uses some other properties that we don’t use in our networks. Just like we have some properties that we use in our networks don’t use in his but there is some overlap there. The difference is those aren’t branded and all interlink the same way that we do.

It’s a bit more of a random interlinking so that there’s not a footprint with those where as ours we are intentionally leaving a footprint because we’re trying to reinforce that brand. Does that make sense? They really are for different purposes as I told Walt who asked that very same question David.

I said they’re absolutely good networks, I’m not saying don’t buy ours over his or don’t buy his that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying they serve different purposes and I think those are actually great to be used as supplemental video syndication networks.

Clint says, “Why not just use the text tab in WordPress and add JSON-LD there?” I’m not sure what you mean there, “It works the same as putting in the head footer less work.” Test tab in WordPress I’m not even sure what the hell that is Clint.

This Stuff Works

Hernan: Probably it’s the text tab … the HTML one.

Bradley: Does it though Clint and I haven’t tested that because I was always taught from the JSON-LD markup that it’s supposed to be in the header, the head section of the page not in the body. Maybe and again even the text tab and if this is if you did mean the text tab you’re talking about like the HTML editor, the text editor on the post or page editing screen.

I found that when you try to add schemer.org markup is micro data that most WordPress themes will strip that data even if you leave it as text when you save it, it will strip that data out.

Adam: Clint just said he replied on the page and said, “Yup it works.”

Bradley: Okay I haven’t tested that so if he says it works try it guys but the alternative is just to use this and you just insert it there and it works too. We’ve got about 2 more minutes so let’s see that function of adding super pages included in the Project Supremacy plugin. Recommended Traffic Generation Strategies

“My client has a site but it’s not generating any traffic even though there’s a bunch of relevant articles content and a promotion they had a few press releases and social media profiles on all major and unknown sites and they keep posting to social media at least twice a week relevant content. What do you recommend to generate traffic as you know 5 a bunch of geeks provide link back service but it’s all spam because in real world things can’t be spreaded just overnight where as they do so I don’t recommend them to go for is.” I’m not really sure what the question is you mean you’ve got.

Adam: I guess the question is what do you recommend for generating traffic to a site that’s a pretty?

Bradley: It depends if you’re syndicating content, you’re producing content regularly, publishing content regularly and you’re sharing it out across social media but do you have relevant followers, like are you building an audience because just having social media presence isn’t going to do it.

You’ve got to start building that following people that are interested in and circling or following you or whatever and then you could generate traffic from that. Are you getting ranked for your keywords, are you trying to generate traffic from Google search because if so you need to be ranked. If you’re not ranked for anything then nobody knows you exist.

You could set up paid traffic campaigns to start gaining some traction until you can get your SEO towards generating traffic for you. That’s another pay per click, you could do it via Facebook, YouTube ads, Google ad words, Bing, anyone of those. You could do something like that to drive traffic, targeted traffic to the site until you’ve got your site to start ranking and generating organic traffic or until you got your social media generating traffic from publishing content to an audience that is looking for that kind of content.

I don’t know what the whole Fiverr Gig thing was in here, I don’t know what you mean by that. I don’t ever use Viber stuff SEO services for your money sites guys just don’t do it. If that’s what you were doing for SEO is Viber gigs then there’s a good chance your site is not ranking because of that and you’re getting traffic because it’s not ranking. Sorry I don’t have enough information on that one.

Okay guys Peter Drew’s thing is decent pricing is whack. Okay Clint as a beta I think Clint is in the beta testing program. It’s fairly cheap for beta testers but I don’t know what the actual retail pricing is going to be so I can’t speak to that.
