What Has Been Your Experience When Linking From Press Releases?

In episode 203 of our weekly Hump Day Hangouts, one participant asked about the team's experience when linking from press releases.

The exact question was:

I've heard about two different approaches regarding linking from Press Releases:
1) Use only Brand anchors and naked URLs
2) and from Press Advantage, use primary and secondary KWs linked to money site, a tier 1 site (many possibilities here), and a previous press release (if related).

What has been your experience since these will go out to 200-400 publications?
